Air pollution in Jakarta had forced Governor Anies Baswedan to formulate a policy that prohibits cars aged over ten years to roam the streets in the city, in addition to expanding the odd-even traffic regulation. These could be an opportunity for PT Astra International Tbk to market its newest hybrid and electric car products.

Astra International Director Henry Tanoto explained in terms of technology, Astra's principal partner, Toyota, has pledged to sell electric vehicles (EV) in the country. Toyota will launch its battery electric vehicle (BEV) in China next year and then continues to the US, Japan, and other countries. However, the EV development must also consider infrastructure readiness in Indonesia, such as the electric recharging station (SPL) and its market potential.
