Indonesian Electronics Industry Condition Worsens
Four electronic companies in Batam, PT Noble Batam, PT Foster Electronic Indonesia, PT Unisem Batam, and PT Samina, are in danger of bankruptcy and laying off many of their workers. Foster Electronic, for example, has been gradually lying off around 1,000 employees since the end of 2018 until mid-2019. The company’s products cannot compete in the current market anymore.
The latest bad news comes from Unisem Batam, planning to lay off 800 workers in September. On June 28, 2019, the semiconductor assembling and testing company openly announced its plan to stop operating to all of its workers. The company’s poor performance since the third quarter of 2018 is behind the company’s decision. Unisem could not recover from significant losses for two years straight.
