Oversupply Sparks Coal Price Turmoils
The fluctuations in coal prices have threatened the national Foreign exchange earnings of the mining commodity. The turmoil is expected to last long following mostly-unabsorbed productions due to unfavorable trading conditions.
Since early 2019, the Reference Coal Price (HBA) has been weakening to below US$ 100 per ton. In Q1/2019, the HBA declined from US$ 92.41 to US$ 90.57 per ton. In the first half of this year, HBA dropped to US$ 71.92 per ton. Although it rose to US$ 72.67 per ton in August, the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) estimated that the price would decline again until the end of the year.
