Indonesia to Massively Convert Cooking Oil into Renewable Fuels

Summary

Indonesian biodiesel companies are trying to lift their production volume even though the palm oil industry is suffering from the European Union protectionist policy. The Indonesian Biodiesel Producers Association (APROBI) expects the increase of production capacity from the current 11 million kilolitres to 14 million kilolitres by 2029.

APROBI saw around 50 percent of the increase in domestic biodiesel demands to 9-10 million kilolitres after the government raised the necessary amount of palm oil blended in biodiesel to 30 percent (B30). Considering President Joko Widodo’s plan to implement B50 in 2020 and finally B100, APROBI had calculated the palm oil producers could meet the export quota although most of their products would go to the domestic biodiesel industry.
