Additional Regulations for Electric Cars

The Government has issued Presidential Regulation No. 55/2019 concerning the acceleration of the Battery Electric Vehicle for Road Transportation program. This regulation becomes the basis for the development of electrified vehicles, which in 2025 is targeted to reach 20 percent of the total vehicle production in Indonesia.

However, the regulation is deemed insufficient as it has yet to cover the driving safety and security aspects. Therefore, the government mulls to issue an additional rule, which becomes the reference for the safety and comfort of electric cars. Transportation Ministry’s Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said that the electric car noise is among the aspects to be regulated. It is because electric cars are almost noiseless when running, thus becomes dangerous to other road users.
