EV Bikes for Online Ojek

Summary

The government is eyeing electric bike development by cooperating with many parties. The Ministry of Industry in August began testing electric motorcycles (EV bikes) in collaboration with Honda, Panasonic, and the New Energy Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in Bandung and Bali.

The product testing involves two ride-hailing giants, Gojek and Grab, as well as potential customers. They will operate 300 units of EV bikes, supported by 1,000 units of batteries and 40 units of battery exchanger stations. Ministry of Industry’s Director-General for Metal Machinery and Transportation Equipment an Electronics Harjanto said Gojek and Grab were testers because they had significant numbers of partner drivers, one of the consumer markets targeted by electric motorcycle manufacturers.
