The Government Ponders the Option to Import Electric Cars

The government is changing the strategy to boost the development of the electric car by no longer focusing on the increase of domestic production capacity. The Industry Ministry will open up the import quota of completely built-up units (CBU) instead.

According to the Industry Ministry’s Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation and Defense Equipment Putu Juli Ardika, the CBU import permit would accelerate the technology transfer and push the market development of electric cars. However, the rule on the import itself would be probably out one year after the presidential regulation on electric vehicle development is effective.
