The Government to Allow Slag Recycle

Summary

The government plans to push the regulation on the mineral slags recycle from refineries and smelters. However, according to the current law, mineral slags are in the hazardous and toxic waste (B3) category and therefore illegal to recycle them. To make the recycling process legal, the government plans to revise the regulation to simplify the permit process of smelting waste recycles.

The Coordinating Economic Minister, Darmin Nasution, revealed that the slags recycle should follow several assessment phases. However, the assessment phases are not complicated since the slag is not a dangerous concentrate. Mineral slags are in the hazardous and toxic category because of the massive amount of them.
