Enlarging Foreign Workers' Opportunities

Summary

The Ministry of Manpower releases regulations regarding certain positions which can be occupied by foreign workers. This regulation is a change to the previous law by changing the portion of posts that may be filled by foreign workers in specific sectors.

In the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 229/2019 signed on August 27, the government increased the portion of foreign workers in the construction and education sectors. Foreign workers can now occupy 181 positions in the field of construction, even though they can only fill 68 jobs in the previous regulation (Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 247/2011). In the education sector, the foreigners’ job portion increased to 143 from 77 positions. However, there is also a reduced portion of spots for foreigners, such as in the food-beverage industry.
