Horticulture Farmers to Get Import Duty Protection
The government plans to impose another protectionist policy through tariffs to shield the domestic enterprises. The new policy will regulate import duties for vegetable, flower, and fruit or horticultural products.
The Coordinating Economic Minister, Darmin Nasution, insisted that the import duty was the key element to protect the local farmers. He also assured that the tariff would not infringe any guideline regulated by the World Trade Organization (WTO). On the other hand, the Agriculture Ministry stated that the horticultural import duty is useful for maintaining the quality of imported products.
