Power Losses Drain PLN’s Revenue

Summary

The power losses in electricity distribution are getting bigger. The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry stated that the power losses in PLN’s networks this year is 9.4 percent, a 0.1 percent increase from last year’s 9.3 percent. The number is far from the ideal level which is under five percent.

The power losses are frequent in a vast electricity transmission similar to networks in Java and Bali. According to PLN’s calculation, the electricity transmission in Jawa and Bali alone could reach 9.2 percent. The transmissions outside of Java are even more horrible and could get around 12 percent of power losses. The power losses also mean that a significant portion of electricity will go to waste.
