The Textile Industry Protection Dilemma
The government immediately issued safeguard regulations in the form of additional import duties on imported textile products. This effort was made to stem the rise of apparel products, raw materials, and semi-finished textile materials from abroad, which disrupt the continuity of the domestic industry.
Ironically, this policy has been hampered by national textile entrepreneurs. The industry players’ stance differs from one another. The Indonesian Association of Synthetic Fiber Producers (APSYFI) and the garment industry in the bonded logistics centers (PLB), for example, do not agree with the imposition of the safeguard. In contrast, yarn and fabric manufacturers are disturbed by the rise of imported products.
