eSIM Adoption and the Dimming of Cellular Distributors Business
Domestic cellular telecommunications operators are adopting eSIM technology which injects the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) into mobile phone devices. The technology, which has become the new standard in the global cellular telecommunications industry, would make the physical SIM card no longer needed.
Smartfren became the first operator to use eSIM. Smartfren’s management claims the technology could save costs by up to 80 percent since it could eliminate costs for cards distribution and production. From the user's side, they may obtain a SIM identity directly when buying a new cell phone, thus providing efficiency and convenience.
