Government to Impose Textile Tariff
The government is set to impose a protectionist scheme through safeguard tariff on textiles and imported textiles. The policy will go into effect after several national textile manufacturers collected every evidence about the negative result of imported textiles over the local textile products.
According to the Head of Indonesian Trade Safeguard Committee (KPPI), Mardjoko, the government can directly release the recommendation letter to impose the temporary safeguard measure on import duty (BMTPS) in 200 days or six months at most. However, the safeguard can only be implemented after the national manufacturers file a complaint about the harmful effects of imported goods as well as the pieces of evidence. If the temporary safeguard measure fails, the government can impose a permanent safeguard measure on import duty for three years.
