Grab to Invest in BPPT’s Electric Charging Station

Summary

Grab Indonesia will become the most significant player in the electric vehicle industry if the company decides to invest in developing infrastructures. The government offers to Grab to manage and invest in the public electric charging station (SPLU) developed by the Assessment and Application Technology Agency (BPPT).

The Maritime Affairs Coordinating Minister, Luhut Pandjaitan, stated that Grab Indonesia could operate the station for only Rp 1.7 billion per unit, cheaper than the ones offered by foreign vendors around Rp 13 billion. The operating cost of a station could be even lower since PT PLN is ready to provide cheap electricity tariff, around Rp 2,600 per kilowatt-hour as part of the deal.
