EDC Machine No Longer Needed

Summary

The number of electronic data capture (EDC) machine owned by the payment system institutions has drastically decreased. Per July 2019, Bank Indonesia (BI) showed that the number of EDC machine had reduced from 937,532 units to 340,276 units. Many banks lower or even stop the usage of their EDC machines.

The low number and volume of credit card transactions in the last few years possibly affect the EDC machine usage stagnation. The total of credit cards per July 2019 is 17.27 million cards or equal to the previous year’s number, while the transaction volume of the credit cards was only 199.63 million times or up 2.10 percent.
