Government Prepares Rooftop Solar Cell Regulation

Summary

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is preparing specific regulations for rooftop solar cells, which applies not only for houses or other residential properties but to industrial buildings as well, in a bid to spur the use of clean and efficient energy.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignatius Jonan said the rooftop solar cell would likely be regulated in a Ministerial Regulation which complements the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Regulation No. 49/2018 on the use of the Rooftop Solar Cell by PT PLN consumers. With the new regulation, the government encourages industries that have independent power plants or are not PLN consumers to develop solar power plants, which until now are still considered expensive.
