Reaping Opportunities in Big Truck Market
Several heavy equipment manufacturers expanded their business by working on the production and marketing of heavyweight trucks weighing above 24 tons amid the sluggish domestic motor vehicle market, yet supported by infrastructure development and logistics business opportunities.
Two heavy equipment manufacturers PT United Tractor Tbk and PT Kobexindo Tractor Tbk are preparing truck assembly. United Tractor, a subsidiary of PT Astra International Tbk, would assemble a Swedish heavy truck, Scania. Previously, the company manufactured the Scania bus chassis with an installed capacity of 300 units per year. As for Kobexindo, the company established a subsidiary, PT Kobexindo Foton Indonesia, which markets imported trucks from China, Foton. Kobexindo Foton markets dump trucks, prime movers, and mixer trucks made by Foton and Mercedes-Benz to construction and transportation companies.
