Indonesia, Japan Signs Agreement for Jakarta-Surabaya Fast Train
The Indonesian and Japanese governments signed a project agreement to build a Jakarta-Surabaya semi-fast railroad. The agreement, which was signed by the Transportation Ministry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), contains commitments related to technical matters for the project, which is estimated to cost Rp 80 trillion- Rp 120 trillion.
The document titled 'Summary Record on the Java North Line Upgrading Project' contains a survey of locations, rail line width, rail construction type, signaling system, train design, and train speed provision. The plan to enter the construction phase will be discussed, including efforts to sterilize railroad tracks as well as the construction of non-level crossings such as flyovers, underpasses, and pedestrian bridges. The local components and the financing scheme using public-private partnerships are also discussed.
