Automation and Labor Reduction Threat
Technological development is like a double-edged sword. Besides being useful in easing various tasks, technology can also eliminate the work normally done by humans. Indonesia, which is aggressively developing digitalization, is also not immune to this threat.
Based on the results of a study released by McKinsey and Company on September 25, 2019, computerization and machine technology will take over approximately 23 million types of jobs in Indonesia by 2030. However, automation and artificial intelligence can stimulate the emergence of new jobs for productive workers, which reach 25 million people in that period. Cashier and customer service are two examples of jobs that are “threatened to disappear” in Indonesia. They will be replaced by self-service technology and answering machines or computers.
