Indonesia-Based Chinese Car Manufacturers Start Exporting SUVs

Summary

Indonesia-based Chinese car manufacturers are getting national recognition. Wuling and DFSK, starting to operate their factories in Indonesia two years ago, have taken a significant portion of the domestic automotive market. Both of them even begin exporting their products to several countries.

On September 25, 2019, Wuling shipped 1,000 units of Wuling Almaz, its sport utility vehicle (SUV), to Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and Fiji. The company expects to send 2,600 more units of the car, rebadged as Chevrolet Captiva, to meet this year’s target. Meanwhile, DFSK has been exporting its DFSK Super Cab 1.3 L Turbo Diesel pickup trucks to the Philippines and planned to distribute DFSK Glory 580, its SUV, to other ASEAN countries.
