The urban transportation mode, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), had become a center of attention as several digital payment system companies are competing for a quick response code (QR Code) technology provider for ticket transactions.

Among these competing companies are OVO from PT Visionet International, LinkAja by PT Fintek Karya Nusantara, and GoPay from PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa. OVO and GoPay are known as Grab and Gojek online transportation payment providers, whereas LinkAja is a payment service from several state-owned financial companies. MRT operators held a beauty contest to determine the winner to operate the QR Code system in October.
