Foreign Investment Portion in Infrastructure Sector Set to Increase

Summary

The government is loosening several investment policies, including the ones on the infrastructure sector, through deregulations. The new regulations will be less tight on the foreign investors’ share in the infrastructure projects.

The Public Works and Housing Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono, stated that his side and the Coordinating Economic Ministry had been discussing the deregulations of policies inhibiting foreign funds. He mentioned both ministries were considering revising around 14 laws related to investments. One of them was the Construction Service Law No. 2/2017, regulating the foreign capital portion. The new regulation would allow foreign investors to raise their stake from 30 percent to 51 percent, making them the majority owners.
