Weighing the Impact of Toll Rate Hike
At least 13 toll road tariffs will increase until late 2019 for the first time in two years, in line with Road Law No. 38 of 2004, which stipulates the evaluation and adjustment of tariffs every two years. Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit said the Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono had approved tariff increases for some of these toll road sections.
The amount of toll rate hikes refers to the inflation rate. Among these toll roads are Jakarta-Tangerang, Tangerang-Merak, Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali), Palimanan-Kanci, and Jakarta Inner Ring Road. To obtain approval for a rate increase from the government, toll road operators must meet minimum service standards, for example, a 100 percent hole-free holes and transaction speed of less than or equal to eight seconds per vehicle at the toll gate.
