Government to Boost Exports through Horticulture

Summary

The government is preparing to develop horticulture clusters by using the state-owned enterprises’ (SOE) lands with the right-to-cultivate-permits, changing the status to right-to-manage permits, and then offering them to private parties interested in developing the sector. Yuli Sri Wilanti, Coordinating Economic Ministry’s deputy assistant for agribusiness, revealed that land acquisitions remain one of the most debilitating problems in the horticulture industry.

The status conversion might solve one of the many problems faced by the industry. At the moment, the government is mapping the lands needed for the clusters. It is also planning a grand design to develop them according to the horticulture potential in each area. The new system will hopefully push the exports of horticulture products.
