Diesel Fuel Restriction Leads to Truck Long Queues

Summary

The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) lifted the restriction on subsidized diesel fuel. The policy on limiting subsidized diesel is contained in the Circular Letter of BPH Migas Head No. 3865.E/KaBPH/2019 concerning Quota Control for Certain Types of Fuel in 2019, which was published on August 1. The reason for lifting the restriction is the recent escalation of political dynamics that require a conducive atmosphere and stability in the public.

BPH Migas’ decision was a relief for truck entrepreneurs. Previously, the Indonesian Trucking Association (Aptrindo) demanded the lifting of subsidized diesel restrictions to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and BPH Migas. The reason is that the limitation policy has caused chaos and injustice in the distribution of subsidized diesel. The supply in some areas has even been reduced drastically. As a result, there was a long queue of trucks when refueling subsidized diesel fuel at SPBU, disrupting the operations of the transportation business sector.
