Government to Increase Ferry Crossing Tariff

The Transportation Ministry plans to increase the tariff for inter-provincial crossing transport. The Ministry is conducting a public test on the draft of the Minister of Transportation Regulation regarding the Determination Mechanism and Formulation of Crossing Tariff Calculation to obtain feedback from all parties. The tariff increase has been considering the sustainability of the crossing transport operator since it has not gone up in the last 2.5 years.

Moreover, Transportation Ministry’s Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said the crossing tariff calculation has never changed in 16 years. The ferry transportation tariff is set to increase by 30 percent gradually. After the tariff hike, the ministry asked the ferry operator to keep prioritizing and even improving passenger safety and comfort to reduce the number of accidents in ferry crossings.
