PT Satyamitra Kemas Lestari Tbk (SMKL) seeks to boost the export market following the domestic business slowdown. Consequently, the carton packaging producer will build a new factory in Central Java. The director of SKML, Herryanto Setiono Hidayat, revealed to Kontan that the factory could produce up to 150,000 tones per year.
The company hopes that the new factory could improve exports from five percent to 20-30 percent of the total sales. It is currently partnering with a US-based retail company, Walmart, to export 150 shipping containers of paper bags. The value of the contract between SMKL and Walmart is approximately US$ 10 million.
